OBMFO is dedicated to helping you prepare for the last journey. We provide counseling and guidance to bereaved families, complete funeral arrangement services, financial assistance to those in need, and community programs for the Ottawa-Bangladesh Muslim community.
Dignified Islamic Funeral Services

Ghusl (Ritual Washing)
Performed by trained volunteers of the same gender according to Islamic guidelines
Kafan (Shrouding)
Proper preparation and shrouding following Sunnah — materials provided by OBMFO

What To Do When A Muslim Dies
A step-by-step guide to help families during this difficult time
- ✓Close the eyes of the deceased and make dua (supplication)
- ✓Cover the body with a clean sheet
- ✓Turn the body to face the Qibla (direction of Mecca) if possible
- ✓Notify close family members
- ✓Contact OBMFO immediately for assistance
- ✓Call us as soon as possible for support
- ✓Our team will coordinate all necessary arrangements
- ✓We will assist with obtaining the death certificate
- ✓Transportation of the deceased will be organized
- ✓Performed by trained individuals of the same gender
- ✓The body is washed with water and soap following Islamic guidelines
- ✓Washing is done an odd number of times (typically 3)
- ✓Camphor or other fragrance may be used in the final wash
- ✓OBMFO provides trained volunteers to perform Ghusl
- ✓The body is wrapped in clean, white cotton cloth
- ✓Men are wrapped in three pieces of cloth
- ✓Women are wrapped in five pieces of cloth
- ✓OBMFO provides the kafan materials
- ✓The Janazah (funeral) prayer is organized at a local masjid
- ✓Community members are notified of the prayer time and location
- ✓The prayer is led by an Imam and is a communal obligation (Fard Kifayah)
- ✓OBMFO coordinates the timing and location with the family
- ✓The burial takes place as soon as possible after death
- ✓The body is placed in the grave on its right side, facing Qibla
- ✓OBMFO coordinates with Islamic cemeteries in the Ottawa area
- ✓Transportation to the cemetery is arranged
- ✓All burial procedures follow Islamic guidelines
- ✓Community members offer condolences and support
- ✓Meals may be provided to the grieving family
- ✓OBMFO offers grief counseling and continued support
- ✓Guidance on Islamic mourning practices is available

OBMFO offers a pre-need membership that allows Bangladeshi Muslim families in Ottawa to make small monthly contributions toward their eventual funeral expenses. This relieves your family of financial and emotional strain at the most difficult time. OBMFO purchases and holds a burial plot at Ottawa Muslim Cemetery for each member.
