About OBMFO

Ottawa is home to several thousand Bangladeshi Muslims. When someone passes away, the surviving family members undergo a difficult period and require immediate assistance in arranging the funeral. This involves both non-financial assistance — such as obtaining death certificates and organizing prayers — and managing the financial costs of transportation, washing, grave plots, and burial services.

Recognizing this need, OBMFO was established in 2009 as a registered non-profit organization to provide these essential services to our community. What began as a small volunteer effort has grown into a vital community organization serving thousands of families across the Ottawa region. Through monthly membership fees, OBMFO purchases burial plots for each member, ensuring that families are not burdened with these costs during their time of grief.

OBMFO was the largest contributor to the opening of the Ottawa Muslim Cemetery in 2013, securing an agreement to purchase 200 plots over three years. We have also raised over $50,000 for Rohingya refugees, $45,000 to sponsor Syrian refugee families, and provided COVID-19 relief both locally and internationally.

Today, OBMFO stands as a pillar of support for the Muslim community in Ottawa, providing funeral services, social welfare programs, community events, youth programs, educational initiatives, and emergency assistance. We continue to grow and adapt to meet the evolving needs of our community while staying true to our Islamic values and commitment to service.
