About OBMFO

Ottawa is home to several thousand Bangladeshi Muslims. When someone passes away, the surviving family members undergo a difficult period and require immediate assistance in arranging the funeral. This involves both non-financial assistance — such as obtaining death certificates and organizing prayers — and managing the financial costs of transportation, washing, grave plots, and burial services.

Recognizing this need, OBMFO was established in 2009 as a registered non-profit organization to provide these essential services to our community. Through monthly membership fees, OBMFO purchases burial plots for each member, ensuring that families are not burdened with these costs during their time of grief.

OBMFO was the largest contributor to the opening of the Ottawa Muslim Cemetery in 2013, signing an agreement to purchase 200 burial plots. We have also raised funds for Rohingya refugees and sponsored Syrian refugee families, and provided COVID-19 relief both locally and internationally.

Today, OBMFO stands as a pillar of support for the Muslim community in Ottawa, providing funeral services, social welfare programs, community events, youth programs, and emergency assistance — staying true to our Islamic values and commitment to service.
